Sunset rose is accompanied by a set of shaded maracas that, depending on how she plays them, attack at different strengths. When she beats them together, she can summon a bigger version of her cure form that she can control with them. This is used in Maracas Up-Beat.

While walking home one day, Nonochi Mikiba is attacked by a strange beast resembling and ipod with a red haired man on it's top. Even in fear, Nonochi protects the talking doll that fell into her hands before she was attacked. After a few minutes of hiding from the monster and receiving a very broad explanation, she is attacked directly by it. She protects the doll still, enduring the blows briefly before she is knocked back in the air and caught by a mysterious young man. She doesn't see him clearly before the man sets her down at a safe location and takes the doll. But the doll drops a round token like object before they left. Nonochi looks back at the monster to see it and the red haired man in combat with what she describes as "a beautifully dressed woman with radiant hair." After the woman defeats the monster and restores it to normal, she disappears instantly, leaving an angry man behind. A blue and pink pair of girls show up and run him away before disappearing as well. After this, Nonochi draws pictures of the woman she saw all the time and always has the token with her. Tsubomi invited her over one day to work on a project, and Kaoruko sees one of her drawings of the girl. She tells Nonochi that her name is Cure Eventide and that she protects the hearts of the innocent because that is the job of a Pretty Cure. Nonochi says she has never heard of such a thing, but Kaoruko says that she has the potential to become one herself and points out Nonochis token. She says it is really her heart seed and it contains her power. But Kaoruko noted that she doesn't have a mascot or a perfume to transform with. This drives Nonochi insane with the urge to become a legendary warrior like Cure Eventide. During a fight between Blossom and Marine and another monster, Nonochi begs them to stop because the heart flower they used belonged to her beloved brother. While distracted, Blossom and Marine are both hit by the man controlling the monster, the same red haired man named Kumojacki. This drove Nonochi mad to the point where she tried attacking the man on her own. When he attacked her, she was protected by her Heart Seed, which began to glow. The Heart tree reacted to the feelings she held for saving her brother and allowed her to transform without a fairy or a perfume. She transformed into Cure Rosebud, and used all of her strength to save her brothers heart flower. Hearing his sister calling to him, the monster refused to attack and stalled long enough for Rosebud to discover her purification move. After saving her brother and becoming a cure, Nonochi was truly content. But as time passed, she began to notice the drastic differences between herself and the other cures. After Sunshine appeared, Nonochis heart flower took a drastic dive for the worst. She was repeatedly reminded that her power was just a bud that hadn't sprouted and that she didn't even have a fairy partner. her contribution to the team was no longer needed. So she stopped appearing to fight the desetorians. But one day Cobraja tried to use her heart flower against the cures, creating a broken sculpture monster. Nonochis feelings of pain and rejection overcame the powers of Sunshine, Marine and Blossom combined. They were in real danger when the Yuri appeared with her friend Nao Yuki. Yuki, on the spot, transformed into Cure Eventide and saved the three cures in harms way. Yuri held the back as Eventide used her purification attack on the desetorian and saved Nonochi. By the time Nonochi woke up Cure Eventide was just returning to normal, as well as everyone else. Nonochi was so excited to see her idol she forgot any feelings she held before. Kaoruko kindly asked if Yuki would mind visiting every once in a while. Nonochi asked ecstatically if she could fight with them, but Kaoruko said visiting was enough. Yuki promised to walk Nonochi home, since her school and house was on the way between her and Yuris school and house. When Cure moonlight regained her powers, and Dark Precure attacked her with Dark forte wave before she could transform, Cure Eventide jumped in the way taking a direct hit and having her Heart Seed damaged in the process. The pain and shock soaked into it, and made just being in her cure form terribly agonizing. No longer being able to transform, she gave her fairy to Cure Rosebud, saying shes had the power to be a proper cure all on her own, finally allowing her to bloom into Cure Rose. After that day, Yuris main commitment lie in her responsibilities as a Precure. Yuki confided in Nonochi and Itsuki, after constant pressuring, that Yuri meant more to her than being a cure and she was happy to have saved her from Dark precures attack. Even so, Yuki acted noticeably more depressed when she was alone. Even at school, she was extremely secluded. It had come to the point where she would only see Yuri if she visited Kaorukos garden. Her and Yuri had little to no contact whatsoever and it was because of that, that Yuri was the only one unable to see it. Nonochi held a small grudge in place of her idol and accidentally blew up at Yuri one day, in front of everyone, about how Yuki felt. Yuki herself was on her was in the room with flower buds for Kaoruko and when she heard, she left almost immedeatly, too embarrassed to show her face especially to Yuri.
the day that dark Precure returned, and with a new ally. Another cure themed villian, by the name of Cure Aphoric. All of the cures including moonlight and rose were so busy trying to defend themselves, they forgot about Yuki. She had begun to ignore the affairs of the cures, and it was very obvious her heart flower had long ago wilted. But a string of hope kept it alive. And it was only because while Nonochi fought against her former self, she was also able to damage Yukis even though she didnt know who it was at the time. Yuki was sought out by Dune because of her dying purity, and while the cures fought with their new threat, Dune persuaded Yuki to follow him. It took a few days for Yuri to realize that Yuki was missing and the news worried Nonochi to death. They only learned hints from Aphoric about her location. Yuri and Nonochi constantly clashed, because Yuri tried to calmly connect the pieces, while Nonochi franticly searched for her. Nonochi grew more and more hateful toward Yuri, for she believed it was her fault for not loving Yuki properly. She grew even more furious after Yuri asked Kaoruko about Dunes location. Yuri began to reply angrily when Nonochi said the she was going to let Yuki end up like Colonge. When they finally faced Dune with Cure Flower, he had Yuki by his side. She was wearing her tainted Heart Seed on a neck brace. Dune had serenaded her and captured her heart, turning her eternal love for Yuri into immense hatred. After Dune regained his full power and returned to his original form, he turned Yuki into his queen and the two fought off all of the cures. Nonochi gain the power from Yukis heart seed when Dune changed her and Airoma escaped behind Dunes back to get to Rose. It said that there was something stopping her from using that power, and that it was most likely Yukis tainted heart seed. While Yuri fought dark Precure, Nonochi fought cure Aphoric, but couldn't defeat her. After Dune and Yuki, who dune called Suna-hime, defeated professor Sabaku, Yuri actually felt hatred toward Suna-hime. Nonochi defended Yuri from Tsubomi, saying she understood her anger. But she said it wasnt hate. It was the feeling of betrayal. Nonochi said she felt the same when Yuri wasn't as worried about Yuki as she was. And dark Precure when Yuri was reunited with Sabaku. But she said Yuki was different. She never hated, she never felt angry. She only blamed herself, and that's why her heart flower wilted faster than if she had felt angry. At least anger would have given her some relief, and maybe some resolution. But she didn't want to hurt anyone else. So she blamed herself. When Dune came to Yuki, Nonochi said he must have offered her a way to relieve that pain and sadness, and since they weren't there to protect her, she eagerly accepted whatever illusion of love dune was willing to offer her. Dune interrupted, saying he held no false care for Yuki, who had said the same. This cut insanely deep into Yuris heart, even though she didn't expect it to. All at once, Nonochi saw Yuri realize everything she hadn't been able to see up until now, all at the same time. Yukis feelings, her sadness and loneliness, why she went to Dune, and why she avoided them. It was the same thing Yuri had done. And that shouldve given Yuki even more reason to hate Yuri. Nonochi, Yuri and Tsubomi then tried to release their full powers to defeat Dune and save Suna-hime. Marine and Sunshine showed up to help. Sunshine saved Rose from Aphoric, who decided to take part, and assisted Rose in her fight. They thought they had defeated her and went to help Marine fend off Dune, when Blossom and Moonlight tried to use Floral power fortissimo against him. Rose realized that this infuriated Suna-hime, as did every other team interaction with moonlight. Before anyone could tell, Suna-hime had knocked Blossom clear out of the sky. Until then, she had just defended Dune from attacks and helped enhance his power. But this was the first violent action she had shown against them on her own. Suna calmed down and fell back to Dunes side soon afterward. But whenever someone would team up with moonlight, for even a second, Suna would grow even more riled and attack them even more brutally. Rose told no one to get too close to moonlight, it was dangerous. She took up the battle herself. But Suna was extremely reckless and vicious that there was no room to attack and end it, so they only fought hand to hand. Moonlight knew this was her fault and her doing. She needed to find a way to at the very least stun and give the others a chance to escape and attack Dune. Rose was being beaten the most, but was saved when Moonlight slid her arms around Sunas midriff to immobilize her while Rose was taken by Sunshine away from their battle.
Sunshine went all out against Aphoric to protect Rose, who could barely move. She was in so much pain she had turned back into her normal self. She saw how Sunshine was fighting to defend her and felt the same pang of uselessness as when she had been Rosebud. But she refused to be protected any longer when Aphoric began taking cheap shots at sunshine. Airoma encouraged Nonochi, and was so enthusiastic, it mistakenly reveale that it was not only one, but two fairies. One grown, from it's time with Yuki, and one newborn. The older one had hidden the younger to protect it from any false intentions but Nonochi said it held hope that Yuki was still a Cure. Nonochi and the elder fairy Airoma were able to unlock her full power and she was able to use the power of Sunset Rose to protect Sunshine and defeat Aphoric.
The next time she saw the two clearly, Yuri was holding an unconscious Yuki in her hands next to Kaoruko. Rose ran over to see Yuki, but she wouldn't wake up. Airoma came too and said that the power of cure Eventide had officially been moved to Rose, making it highly unlikely that Yuki held any potential to become a cure again. But Yuri refused to believe it, after all, she had been the same way. Yuri was willing to give Yuki to Nonochi so that she could go and finish off Dune with the rest of the group. Nonochi almost accepted, but realized that Yuri should be the one looking after Yuki, for more than one reason. Airoma also brought up that aside from being one huge team, the group was also two separate teams and their outfits showed that. Yuki was the partner Yuri never had nor wanted, and maybe that's what hurt Yuki the most. Nonochi argued that her outfit had changed somewhat and was somewhat in the middle. Airoma said that was it's fault since it use to be Yukis. Nonochi gave the baby Airoma to yuri and said it was the last chance they had of restoring Yukis power. Yuri was able to awaken Yuki and convince her that she was still needed, and the two showed up just in time to save marine and sunset rose from one of dunes attacks. Sunset rose was able to take moonlights spot in the heartcatch orchestra, but it wasn't strong enough. But sunset rose and moonlight were able to help complete the infinite silhouette. When the silhouette defeated dune, he was reduced to his smaller form because it hadn't purified his heart. Yuki, now cure twilight, was able to do that separately, using her new move, Evenfall Orchestration.
After the world is returned to normal, Nonochi frequently visits Itsukis dojo to train and hang out while the elder Airoma takes care of potpourri. She is also less protective of Yuki although she still peeks in on Yuri and Yukis relationship.
